CATALOGING GUIDE

A better first cover photograph

Practical habits for a clearer, more useful catalog.

1. Give the whole item room

Keep the entire object inside the frame. Use a stable surface, clear surrounding space, and even light. For grouped lots, make the arrangement easy to read before photographing.

2. Photograph evidence separately

A cover establishes the lot. Close-ups record marks, printed titles, labels, serials, and condition. Add these to the same lot instead of making a single distant cover do every job.

3. State the intended edit

Be specific about background, lighting, straightening, or removal of a clearly identified non-lot object. Inspect the remaining merchandise after any removal.

4. Compare, then approve

Check item count, hardware, lettering, color, pattern, and condition against the original. Do not assume an attractive generated image is faithful.

5. Download the complete record

Keep the original photographs needed for bidder confidence and your own records. An optional generated image is not a replacement for condition photographs.

Clear separation

Background removal is a photo-editing process. Standard generative output is a separate optional service and should always be reviewed against the original merchandise.
